Definition (election)
To receive more votes than any other candidate or party in an election, though not necessarily more than half of the total votes cast.
Although the candidate won a plurality in the primary, they still need an absolute majority to get elected.
The party won a plurality of seats in the recent election, but not a majority, so they will need to form a coalition government.
With multiple candidates running, it's possible to win a plurality without needing more than half of the votes.
